Gate 55 Community Centre, 55 Sighthill Road, Edinburgh EH11 4PB

Friday 13th October- 15th December 2017

9.30-11.30am

                                                                     

We welcome applications directly from parents and carers or someone can apply on their behalf. Applications can be made by completing our online application form or by completing the attached application form and emailing it to: supportingparentsandcarers@edinburgh.gcsx.gov.uk, please indicate on the application form which areas and times would be preferable. There is a waiting list in some areas, if space is not available this term, we will try to match the parent to the next suitable Teen Triple P group. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you require more information or you wish to discuss particular support needs for a family

Clothing Grants

The council is changing the way we pay clothing grants.  If you qualify and have applied for a clothing grant you will receive a payment directly in to your bank account.  You should receive your payment sometime after Monday 17 July and it will appear on your bank statement as ‘clothing grant’.  Please look out for updates on our website.

If you have not received your payment by Wednesday 2 August please contact the school grants team on 0131 469 3471

Palozzi Prize

Congratulations to Ben  (new S6) and Jemima  (new S4) who were nominated for the Paolozzi Prize Art awards at the National Gallery of Scotland last week.

Ben was Commended in the Category ‘Spirit of Paolozzi’ for his Photo Art work ‘New School – Old School’ and Jemima was nominated in the ‘Talent and Creativity’ section for her regal recycler dress. The Paolozzi Prize Art Awards were set up by the City of Edinburgh council in partnership with Edinburgh College of art and the National Galleries of Scotland in memory of Sir Eduardo Palozzi the Scottish Artist to celebrate and showcase the work and talent of Young Artists in Edinburgh.

SPORTS DAY 2017

Sports day 2017 will happen on Friday 16th June at Meggetland playing fields. This is a fun and exciting event for all pupils. The details are below:

Sports Day: Friday 16th June 2017 @ Meggetland Playing Fields
• All pupils arrive at 8.32 at Meggetland. Registration in normal classes on grass rugby pitch 2 – this is down at the bottom of the playing fields.
• First event will start at 9am.
• Come changed and wear PE/Sport Kit.
• Wear your house colours, if you can.
• Bring a water bottle, bring a snack & wear sun screen.
• DO NOT bring valuables.
• There will be 17 events – pupils will take part in 5 events.
• Pupils are split into groups – pupils are to make sure you know which group you are in These groups will be on the noticeboard by the front door of the school. They will also be in the PE department and pupils can ask your PE teacher.
• 20 minutes at each event – move around together – wait for the horn to blast!
• Pupils will be dismissed at 12.50.

Parent and Carer Support and Information Sessions on Young People’s Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Issues

Each monthly session has a different topic focus. There is also an opportunity for parents and carers to meet other parents and supportive professionals in a safe relaxed environment. Parents and carers of 11-18 year olds from in and around Edinburgh are welcome to attend any of the sessions.

 

The next Parent and Carer Support and Information sessions will take place on-

 

Friday 16th June 2017, 9.30-11.30am, Goodtrees Neighbourhood Centre, 5 Moredunvale Place, Edinburgh, EH17 7LB (Parking is available at the venue, Bus Routes: Lothian buses 3, 8, 33)

 

Self Harm

This session will hopefully increase parents and carers understanding about Self Harm and offer some practical ways they can help young people who may consider or display self-harming behaviour.  

The session will be facilitated by Lucia Romeou Somma from the Penumbra Edinburgh Self Harm Project. Lucia provides information, advice and support to parents and family members of young people who self-harm and has lived experience of self-harm and recovery.

Bring Your Parents to School Day 29th May

All S1 & S2 parents should by now have received a letter inviting them to come back to school for a day on 29th May.  This will be our third “Parent Class” who have joined us for a day back at school. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive about the experience.  Thanks for all the responses so far, please keep them coming and we are looking forward to meeting you all on Monday 29th May.  J Presly
