Congratulations to Senior Modern Studies Pupils who took part in the Edinburgh MiniTrials at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on the 3rd October 2015. MiniTrials are based on what actually happens at the Sheriff Court and pupils take part in the reconstruction of two criminal jury trial. The morning trial involved an “assault to severe injury” and the afternoon trial involved” possession of drugs with intent to supply”. The pupils assumed the roles of major participants-lawyers, court officials, witnesses and jurors. The pupils had the assistance of lawyers from the Faculty of Advocates, and the Procurator Fiscal Service. The trials were presided over by senior lawyers or QC’s who acts in the role of “Sheriff”. The teams gave a very convincing performance with the organiser of the event commenting that the event was one of the highest standards she had ever seen. Well done to all the pupils who took part.
