Parent and Carer Support and Information Sessions on

Young People’s Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Issues These Support and Information Sessions are for Parents and Carers who are concerned about their pre-teen or teenager’s Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health. Each monthly session has a different topic focus. There is also an opportunity for parents and carers to meet other parents and supportive professionals in a safe relaxed environment. Parents and carers of 11-18 year olds from in and around Edinburgh are welcome to attend any of the sessions.

 

The next Parent and Carer Support and Information sessions are on-

Obsessive Thoughts and Compulsive Behaviours- Delivered by CAMHS professionals, this session will aim to help increase parent and carers’ understanding about obsessive thoughts and repetitive or compulsive behaviours young people may display and explore different support strategies.

Tuesday 21st November, 6.30-8.30pm, The Wellbeing Works Campus,

Duddingston Yards, Edinburgh, EH15 3NT (Free parking is available at

the venue)

Suicide Awareness- It can be worrying for parents when their teenagers’ mood is often low and they say things like “I just don’t want to be here”. This session, delivered by CAMHS professionals, will explore ways to support young people with these thoughts and help to understand and manage risk with young people who have had suicidal thoughts or attempts.

P7 Open Afternoon

Staff and pupils are all looking forward to welcoming our P7s and parents to Boroughmuir on Friday 27th October.  Our afternoon begins at 1.30pm in the Atrium with Mr Dempster, Miss Presly and pupils.  We also have a tour of departments organised until 3pm and then an opportunity to revisit departments until 3.30pm finish.

Edinburgh Leisure bookings for Club, Group or Organisation

The City of Edinburgh Council have recently asked Edinburgh Leisure to process block bookings for all High Schools.  This is a separate piece of work to the ongoing conversations about ‘operational transfer’ of High Schools to Edinburgh Leisure to operate community time (after 6.00pm weekdays, weekends and holiday periods).

Former Pupil – Nobel Prize Winner 2017

Dr Richard Henderson, a former pupil of Boroughmuir High School, who left in 1962, is a joint recipient of this year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

He is one of 3 scientists who have shared this year’s award for their work on Cryo-Electron Microscopy.

It is a fabulous personal achievement for Dr Henderson and one that we as his former school are also incredibly proud of.

Mr Dempster, Head Teacher, has written on behalf of the whole Boroughmuir High School community to offer our warmest congratulations.

SSA Dual Slalom Qualifier

A fabulous summery day at Hillend even though it was an autumnal September. Some great racing from our two Boroughmuir teams at the SSSA Dual Slalom Qualifier. The A team were just pipped at the post for 1st place by the Firhill Flyers and took a very well deserved 2nd place. Boroughmuir B took 3rd place, and one race between both Boroughmuir teams was pretty riveting and also very close.

So well done racers, some great skiing and the Boroughmuir A team will go to the finals at Braehead on Thursday 26th October.
