Boroughmuir High School – Sunday Times Scottish State Secondary School of the Year 2018

We are delighted that Boroughmuir has been named as the Sunday Times Scottish State Secondary School of the Year 2018.*

There are 360 state secondary schools in Scotland. To be named as Scottish State Secondary School of the Year for the 2nd time in 6 years is a wonderful accolade for the school and reflects on the incredible hard work and commitment that all our staff, pupils, parents, former pupils and partners put into making our school the great school that it is.

We should all be very proud indeed. Thank you all.

Head Teacher

S1 Parents Feedback – You Said…We Did

Thank you to all S1 parents who attended the S1 Welcome Evening at the end of September.  Since then we have been able to follow up and act upon some of your improvement ideas.  We look forward to seeing you at S1 Parents Evening on Wednesday 14th November.

  • We have opened our library on Wednesday 14th to demonstrate and showcase Office 365 as requested – this will offer more clarity with homework.
  • We have ordered more lockers
  • We are piloting a “Buddy System” for some S1 pupils
  • We are working to improve the pricing in the cafeteria
  • We are going to include more information on clubs for new S1 parents in June

This is a good start to further improve the experience for pupils starting in S1.  Thanks for your feedback.

Please visit the library on Wednesday if you have a chance.  The doors will be open and Ms Aleksandrowicz will be there to help answer any more questions.

We are very pleased to invite you and your son/daughter to our P7 Open Afternoon at Boroughmuir High School on Friday 26th  October from 1.30pm – 3.30pm. National Healthcare Careers Weekend and Partnering with Medic Mentor

Hundreds of healthcare professionals from across the UK will be volunteering to present and network with your students who are interested in:

  • Medicine
  • Veterinary Medicine
  • Dentistry

at our National Healthcare Weekends on the 3rd and 4th November 2018 and the 23rd and 24th March 2019, taking place at the University of Stirling!

Please note that these events are filling quickly!

It is a highly valuable opportunity for your students to network with a variety of healthcare professions, learn about work experience opportunities and how to make a successful application.

Registration is £25 for students on the Saturday conferences and there is an optional UCAS lecture available on Sunday for each specialty.

Students can register on the Medic Mentor website (medicmentor.co.uk) and find out more about the events here.

All proceeds are used to support healthcare students with scholarships, elective bursaries, free training and educational initiatives.

Teachers can attend for free, as well as students from low-income backgrounds.  I have attached a flyer for your information.

Teachers who would like to speak to a Mentor (Doctor) to find out how our National Medical Organisation can support your students this year can book a telephone appointment with us at this link: https://medicmentor.co.uk/book-a-telephone-appointment/
