Our Philosophy:

Historians believe that if you do not know where you have come from then you cannot understand where you are going. At Boroughmuir we believe that History teaches so much more than just some ‘dusty old facts from the past’ and we aim to provide an experience that will stimulate the pupil and develop a life-long interest in the subject. Employers and academic institutions place a high value on skills developed through the study of History. In particular they are impressed by the ability of Historians to research, analyse and present information. Above all, History helps pupils to think logically and put forward reasoned arguments.

Resources / Home Study
The History Department aims to incorporate homework as an integral part of the programme of study. Homework materials are used to underpin and extend classroom learning.  Homework also supplements the formative assessment used with the department to determine the progress of pupils. We believe homework reinforces the skills of self-learning and self-discipline, vital to the nature of courses offered by the Department in the upper school. We encourage parents to actively support and encourage pupils to complete homework in History.
Home study is regularly reviewed and monitored at Departmental Meetings with staff recording non-completion of homework and informing parents of this, via the school policy of homework letters being issued.

*S1/2 booklets as well as useful revision and homework links can be found on the S1/2 dedicated Edmodo page which all S1/2 pupils have been told about and encouraged to join.*
