FACULTY OF SOCIAL SUBJECTS

The Social Subjects Department provides pupils with a broad and engaging understanding of the world around them. Covering subjects such as History, Geography, and Modern Studies, we encourage critical thinking, debate, and analytical skills that help students develop informed perspectives on society and global issues.

Our department fosters curiosity and equips learners with the knowledge and skills to navigate complex social and political landscapes. We are committed to creating an inclusive and stimulating learning environment where pupils feel empowered to explore and challenge ideas.

Geography covers rivers and map skills, atlas skills and development, plus environmental issues in S1. S2 studies volcanoes and earthquakes, climate regions, and China. Weekly revision sessions available with resources shared through Teams. Assessment includes varied formats: tests, posters, projects, and fieldwork tasks.

History explores Romans, Scotland’s Fight for Freedom, and History of Objects in S1. S2 covers Nazi rise and life, Holocaust, WWII end, and Cold War/1960s USA. Resources shared via Teams with minimum two assessed homework assignments per unit. Assessment through formal tests, homework assignments, and presentations.

Modern Studies teaches democracy, human rights, and global citizenship in S1. S2 covers media and culture, terrorism, and international issues. Learning involves contacting elected representatives, mock elections, and active group tasks. Assessment includes research presentations, surveys, essays, and role-play activities.
