FACULTY OF SCIENCE

The Science department works to deliver a general science course to S1 and S2.  This samples content from each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  We develop knowledge, understanding and skills through experimentation, research, debate and discussion.

This Broad General Education helps students understand where their interests and strengths in the sciences lie before making choices for where they will progress to in S3 and S4, as they move towards their first National Qualifications.

In the senior school we run several Higher classes in Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry and Physics as well as multiple Advanced Higher classes in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  We also offer the International Science Baccalaureate to S6 students.

Science follows CFE Level 3 Experiences and Outcomes across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Students receive course note booklets and access materials through Teams and OneNote. Problem-solving homework uploaded regularly with topic-based tasks. Assessment includes written end-of-topic tests, naturally occurring evidence, and formal exams in March (S1) and January (S2).
