Mobile Phone Policy

MOBILE PHONE POLICY

Our Approach

At Boroughmuir High School, we believe that school should be a place focused on learning, social interaction, and personal development. We fully support any parent or carer who chooses not to provide their child with a mobile phone, as phones are not required for school activities.

Policy Guidelines

During Learning Time

  • Mobile phones must be switched off and stored securely in school bags
  • Phones are not permitted out in classrooms or any learning spaces during learning time.
  • If a phone is visible or used during learning time, it will be confiscated and taken to the school office for safe storage. Pupils will be able to collect from their year head at the end of the school day.

During Break and Lunch Times
We encourage pupils to engage with friends and participate in the wide range of clubs and activities available rather than using mobile phones.

Photography and Recording
Pupils must never photograph, film, or record anyone in school without explicit consent. Any violation of this rule will be addressed through our positive relationships and anti-bullying policies and may result in serious consequences.

Emergency Contact

If parents or carers need to contact their child during school hours, please call the school office on 0131 229 9703. Similarly, if pupils need to make an emergency call, they should speak with their guidance teacher.

This policy supports our school values of Respect, Inclusion, and Resilience by creating an environment where all pupils can focus on learning and building meaningful relationships with their peers.
